Fr Philip was born in 1964 and grew up near Banbury in rural north Oxfordshire. He studied at Oxford University, and has degrees in English Literature and Theology. He trained for ministry in the Church of England, and worked in parishes in Reading and Portsmouth from 1989 until 1994, when he began instruction and was received into the Catholic Church.
He studied for the priesthood at the diocesan seminary at Oscott, and then worked as a pastoral assistant, before ordination to the priesthood in 1997. He has served as assistant priest at Our Lady and St Modwen, Burton on Trent (1997 – 98) parish priest of St Maria Goretti, Bentilee in Stoke on Trent (1998-2001), chaplain to Keele University (2001-2007), parish priest of Holy Trinity, Newcastle under Lyme and Sacred Heart, Silverdale (2005 – 2013), and parish priest of the Holy Family, Small Heath (2013 -2020)
Fr Philip enjoys reading (especially literature, history, and politics), music, opera, holidays, cooking and relaxing with his dog Eddie. He is happily unmarried!
